Burston Open Gardens

Burston Open Gardens is an annual event held in late May, where villagers open their gardens to the public. After a pause during the Covid pandemic, it returned in 2024 and expanded to include a Shimpling property in 2025. Visitors from across East Anglia attend. Both new and returning garden hosts are welcome, enhancing the variety for repeat visitors; watch for details on how to participate next year.

Grants

A nominal entry fee is charged for access to all gardens, and additional income is generated from the sale of teas, lunches, plants, and similar items.

Due to favourable weather during the 2024 and 2025 events, garden owners have raised funds intended to benefit residents, improve the local environment, or support the social activities of both parishes.  A Grant Committee has been established to invite applications from parishioners of all ages and local groups in need of small financial grants.

Individuals can apply for up to £100 to support expenses related to education, training, travel, or equipment. Groups may request larger amounts for specific projects or experiences that provide benefits to the community.

Applications will be processed as they are received, and funding will be distributed until resources are exhausted.
